The government spent IDR 1.31 trillion to rebuild Mamuju after the earthquake

An earthquake on January 15, 2021, hit the west coast of Sulawesi. As a result of the earthquake centered 7 kilometers northeast of Majene and with a depth of 10 km, 90 people died. A number of buildings in Mamuju and Majene collapsed and were damaged.

The central government has decided to reconstruct and rehabilitate 147 building and infrastructure units, consisting of 47 office buildings, 29 healthcare facilities, 43 educational facilities, 1 religious building, 1 sports facility, 7 apartment buildings, 3 traditional houses, and 17 drinking water facilities.

Together with 147 buildings, the President also inaugurated three road sections with a total length of 22.4 kilometers that have been completed through the Regional Road Program (IJD). As for the rehabilitated and reconstructed buildings, there are still mosques and regional council office buildings that are not yet finished.

Regarding the second stage of assistance, President Jokowi stated that he will convey it to the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). "To be checked in the field again if there are still those who have not received it," he said.

Before the inauguration, the President visited the office of the West Sulawesi Governor together with the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Zudan Arif Fakrulloh. The heavily damaged Governor's office during the earthquake has now been reconstructed into a magnificent building.

The government, through the PUPR Ministry, is starting the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the governor's office from 30 August 2022 to 2 December 2023,

Promise a student dormitory

The President also visited the building of State Vocational High School 1, one of the buildings that underwent rehabilitation. According to him, after the rehabilitation, the school building has become better.

SMK Negeri 1 Mahmud's Principal conveyed the need for dormitories for children who live far from school and have to rent accommodation. In addition, he also mentioned that the cars used for student practical activities are only old manual cars. Therefore, he requested assistance for electric cars.

President Jokowi promised to build dormitories for students. Similarly, regarding the request for assistance with electric cars, the President promised to send them.

"Nowadays, there are already many electric cars and it's time to practice what goes inside them. This afternoon, I am sending an electric car for practice, not for driving," said the President.

After visiting Mamuju Regency, the President continued his official visit to Mamasa Regency by using a TNI AU Super Puma helicopter through the helipad of Tammajara Korem 142/Taroada field. In Mamasa, the President will visit Tumpah Mamasa Market and review the BPJS services as well as health facilities at Kondosapata Regional General Hospital.
