Women's Volleyball Challenge Follows in Megawati Hangestri's Footsteps

Megawati is not alone. Two other Indonesian female volleyball players, Yolla Yuliana and Aulia Suci Nurfadila, were also registered in the Asia Quarter Draft. They will try their luck like Megawati to have a career in the Korean Volleyball League.

"This is the first opportunity for me. As I'm about to reach 30 years old, I really want to take advantage of this opportunity to try out in Korea. "I really want to prove I'm the best," said Yolla when met after training with the women's national volleyball team in Jakarta, Friday (19/4/2024).

Yolla's first opportunity to follow in Megawati's footsteps will certainly not be easy. Moreover, KOVO is now expanding the scope of Asian countries that can take part in try outs from 10 countries to 64 countries. This was done after KOVO assessed that the Asia Quarter Draft, which will be used for the 2023-2024 season, was successful.

Thus, the competition for Asian women's volleyball players to pursue a career in Korea becomes more intense. Moreover, players from countries with women's national volleyball teams ranked in the top 10 world rankings also participate.

Of the 30 new participants who have been filtered through the administrative process, five of them come from China (ranked 6th in the world) and two from Japan (ranked 9th). The country with the best ranking in Southeast Asia, Thailand (13th in the world), also sent seven players. The foreign players from Asia will compete to be selected by the seven clubs that will compete in the 2024-2025 Korean Volleyball League.

Aulia Suci understood this condition before taking part in the try out which was scheduled to take place in Jeju, South Korea, April 28 to May 1 2024. For this reason, Aulia said, the mental barrier of seeing the competitors was a challenge that she needed to overcome.

"I, right, applied for a position as an opposite, well there are lots of cool opposite rivals from abroad. However, Kak Mega's success has increased my motivation to be able to compete abroad. "That's one of my dreams," said Aulia.

While Aulia registered to be the opposite, Yolla registered for the middle blocker position. With a height of 183 cm, Yolla has a posture that can compete with other foreign players. Yolla's colleague on the national team who took part in the Asia Quarter Draft last year, Wilda Siti Nurfadhilah, said that posture plays a very important role in preparing for a career abroad.

According to Wilda, amiddle blockermust be at least over 180 cm tall to be able to compete with other foreign players for that position.

"Height may not be everything, but it certainly helps. If one does not have a tall posture, at the very least they must have a high level of experience. If that's the case, it is not impossible for a volleyball player to follow in Megawati's footsteps," said Wilda.

The problem of air pollution is not new. The community has long been threatened by air pollution. There is ample research evidence showing the threats posed by air pollution. However, these facts have not yet pushed for significant efforts in controlling air pollution. As a result, residents are increasingly suffering from the effects of air pollution. Wilda herself was mentioned by Red Sparks Coach Ko Hee-jin when asked about Indonesian players that caught his attention. During a press conference at the Ministry of Youth and Sports office on Wednesday (17/4/2024), Ko Hee-jin said he was interested in Wilda after seeing her performance in a video with the Indonesian national team. However, Wilda is not eligible to participate in competition and play in Korea as her name is not listed in the Asia Quarter Draft, unlike her three teammates.

This is not the first time foreign clubs have shown interest in Wilda. The six-time winner of Proliga previously also said that a Taiwanese club had made an offer to join him in early 2024. The club was also interested in Wilda after seeing his performance with the national team. However, he was hampered by preparations for the 2024 Proliga so he could not accept the offer.

The try out schedule in Korea is also close to the 2024 Proliga event. The first round of the Proliga will take place on April 25-28. Meanwhile, on April 28, try out participants must arrive in Jeju before doing a practice match for three days starting April 29.

Both Yolla, who will play for Jakarta Elektrik PLN in the 2024 Proliga, and Aulia, who plays for Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia, are still processing permits from the club to be able to take part in the tryout.
