Cause investigated, fire investigation in Mampang handed over to South Jakarta Police

The case of a fire at Saudara Frame & Gallery shop, in the Mampang Prapatan District, caught public attention. Four out of the seven victims who died were from the same family. The fire, which occurred right in the middle of the city, also caused traffic congestion during the extinguishing process.

David revealed that, based on a temporary inspection, the cause of the fire was due to a fire breaking out on the basement floor. At that time, there were workers who were trying to get rid of termites using gasoline. This activity was carried out close to the compressor machine.

Shortly after, there was a spark and then the fire caught the gasoline. The Head of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, Syamsul Huda, stated that the fire occurred on Thursday (4/18/2024) at 7:04 pm local time and was successfully extinguished at 8:45 pm local time.

After the fire was extinguished at 11:10 PM, personnel were deployed to cool down the area. About 100 personnel from 31 fleets were dispatched to extinguish the fire, including performing cooling efforts.

About 13 hours later, namely exactly Friday (19/4/2024) at 11.40 WIB, the cooling process was complete. Shortly after the fire personnel left the fire location, the police immediately set up a police line. Several investigative teams from Gulkarmat and the National Police also arrived. A team from Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) also visited the location.

According to Kompas on Saturday (20/4/2024), the police line was still in place. The situation in the burning building looked deserted.

Mampang Prapatan Subdistrict Head Ujang Hermawan fully hands over the investigation to the police. "Our duty is to continue coordinating with relevant parties so that this incident does not happen again," he said.

According to Ujang, fires in the Mampang region are very rare. Even if they occur, there are no casualties. "This incident is truly heartbreaking," he said.

Going forward, the district official will ensure that all business owners are more vigilant against any potential fires. He also urges business owners not to stay in their workplaces.

In addition, alternative evacuation routes are provided for businesses, not just relying on the front door alone. Furthermore, lightweight fire extinguishers are also needed as an initial step when a fire occurs.

"We will continue to coordinate with relevant parties to more strictly supervise business premises in implementing safety standards in their places of business," said Ujang.
