The expansion of Tanah Abang Station is targeted to be completed by the end of 2024

After inspecting the project, Director General of Railway at the Ministry of Transportation, Risal Wasal, stated on Sunday (5/5/2024) that the physical construction of the Tanah Abang Station development is targeted to be finished by the end of 2024. This will increase the level of service to passengers in terms of convenience, comfort, and accessibility.

"The development of this station increases passenger capacity up to three times a day. In addition, the addition of new tracks reduces waiting time, especially on the Serpong route, to 3 minutes from the previous 7 minutes," said Risal.

Overall, the development project of Tanah Abang Station is undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). The Ministry is building a new station building, railway tracks, operational facilities (tracks and signaling), and a pedestrian bridge above the railway tracks.

The new station has a main building area of 12,000 square meters and is a 2-story building for commercial areas, supporting facilities and disability facilities.

On the other hand, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is working on widening roads and intermodal integration facilities, while the Indonesian Railways is building parking areas, ticket system arrangements, station plazas, station grounds, and intermodal and canopy facilities.

The development of this station increases passenger capacity up to three times every day.

Electric trains (KRL) are one of the mainstay modes for Jabodetabek residents. Throughout 2023 the number of users will reach 290,890,677 people. This figure will increase by 35 percent from 215,049,339 users in 2022.

KAI Commuter estimates that KRL users will increase throughout 2024. The number could reach 314 million people.

Along with that, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Anne Purba, stated that the management is gradually replacing or renewing train sets and improving the speed of the Commuter Line. They will continue to repair and modernize facilities and infrastructure.

Jatake and Pondok Rajeg

Apart from developing Tanah Abang Station, the government is collaborating with the private sector to build a new station, namely Jatake Station in Tangerang Regency, Banten. At the same time it also reactivated Pondok Rajeg Station in Depok City, West Java.

The construction of Jatake Station began in January 2024 by Sinar Mas Land. This station features a transit-oriented area that is connected to BSD City.

Jatake Station is built on a 2,435 square meter land with a target to operate starting from mid-2025. This station consists of a three-story station building covering an area of 3,000 square meters, a platform length of 250 meters, and each platform is 6 meters wide, with a projected capacity to serve 20,000 passengers per day.

Pondok Rajeg Station is located on the Citayam-Nambo Station line which was built in early 1997. The reactivation of this station is a priority for the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) to develop connectivity between the districts of Cibinong and Cilodong, as well as to reduce passenger density at Citayam Station, Cibinong Station, and Depok Station.

BPTJ and related teams under the Ministry of Transportation have examined the completeness of the minimum service standards (SPM) for Pondok Rajeg Station at the end of last March.

Prasarana Director of BPTJ, Zamrides, stated that the main facilities, infrastructure, and amenities have already met the standard operating procedures. There remain minor tasks that are almost completed or supporting facilities that will be followed up.
